Catapult Your Guitar Playing This Year
The years always pass by more quickly than we would like.
Every new year is an exciting new time where many people make their new year’s resolutions in areas of their life such as work, health, hobbies etc… but here’s an interesting thought. How many of these dreams ever see the light of day? Unfortunately, very little.
Why is that? Why is it that some people achieve a lot with seemingly little effort, and others set out to achieve a dream but never obtain it?
One reason is that they have no one to help them. Making a change is never easy (if it was we’d all be doing it), but those who have supportive people around them find it a lot easier.
You’re probably thinking, how does this relate to the guitar? You’re right, so I have a question for you:
How To Create A Groove Using Harmonized Scales
“If you could achieve anything by the end of this year with your guitar playing, what would you chose?”
Once you have decided on what you’d love to try and achieve, here’s the fun part. I’d like you to spend some time imagining what it would be like to already be doing it. Here’s some questions to get you started:
- “What would other people say?”
- “What would you think about your playing?”
- “How would you feel?”
- “What would your playing sound like?”
- “If you saw yourself playing in a mirror, how cool would it look?”
There are so many things you can aim for with your guitar playing that it’s endless.
When you first start this process, don’t worry if some of them seem a little unachievable at first.
Having a guitar teacher means that they can use the thoughts you have written down from this exercise and make them into goals and develop a plan to get you there. And help you to achieve them.
Wanting to play by a campfire requires very different skills to someone who wants to be in a rock band.
Having a path means it’s going to help you learn the right things in lessons and also practice the right things to be able to achieve what you want faster.
On top of this, it will actually be something you want to do! Which makes it so much fun as well.
It may take a few weeks to finish this exercise, and if you get stuck, try finding inspiration. Maybe that’s in other guitar students in your school. See where they were a couple of years ago and see what sort of things they are doing. Ask around for new music for you to explore or different guitar players to watch videos on.
Is It Hard To Learn The Guitar?
Go to gigs and festivals and watch the guitar players, what are they doing that’s really cool? And play with your friends and see whether you would be interested in improving your ability to play with others.
No matter how big or small, write down what you would like to do to help you achieve more this year than you have done in the last 10 years of your guitar playing.
